( Here lie spoilers )
I don't really know what to do with this free time! I was so looking forward to having a break, and now I don't know what to do. I have all these books and all this manga and anime and I don't know where to start! Thus spending too much time online and sleeping a lot, lol.
Also, I'm getting sick. Laaaaaaame.

The "Best" Best of 2009 List as dictated (but not read) by the famously dubious Christopher.
Favorite New Band Obsession/Discovery.

The Kinks – Strangers

Florence and the Machine – Dog Days Are Over
Surfer Blood – Floating Vibes

Favorite Album(s) Purchased: In Sequential Order.
Such an amazing year for music. Best year for music we've had since somewhere in the '90s.
(1) Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca
(2) Tara Jane O’Neil – A Ways Away
(3) Dinosaur Jr. - Farm
(4) Bad Veins – Bad Veins
(5) Ida Maria – Fortress ‘Round My Heart
(6) M Ward – Hold Time
(7) Yeah Yeah Yeahs – It’s Blitz!
(8) The Caesars – Strawberry Weed (Honestly, this is one of my absolutely favorite, most OVERPLAYED-IN-MY-CAR records—I fucking love this record and I don’t give a shit when it actually came out.)
(9) Paul Westerberg – Come Feel Me Tremble
(10) One soundtrack that needs recognition: New Moon – Even though I protest the existence of this shitbox "saga" of woman-porn, the soundtrack offers a ridiculously well glued collection of amazing artists playing both catchy and fervently melancholic pieces. Turns out, this record is righteously both delicately artful and harmoniously poppy.
Biggest Disappointments in Music.
(1) Peter, Bjorn and John – Living Thing. HORRIBLE experimental horseshit. Not one fucking worth a damn song on this record. How did you go from your immaculate debut to this without one decent, loveable single?
(2) Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavilion. I know, I must now fight you off with a shit prodding stick, because these guys are apparently the second coming of Christ. They can do no wrong. They can do no wrong? Wtf. This album, as Pitchfork Media touts blends “…psychedelic pop, analog electronica, West African rhythms, echoplexed dub ambience.” Great. You know what genres I fucking cannot stand? Pyschedelic. Analog Electronica. West African. Dub Ambience. You just made an album that eagerly and unsympathetically sodomizes my ears with a power drill. Animal Collective, plane crash inferno.
(3) Flaming Lips – Embryonic. No catchiness. Just meandering, fuzzy experimental horseshit. Bring back the Soft Bulletin with all its triumphant buoyancy. At least I could bump that shit down the road, head banging as if I had long hair and a drum kit to annihilate.
(4) Bon Iver – Blood Bank EP. Just wasn’t for me, I don’t hate it. I just didn’t think it had the flare I was hoping it would.
(5) Passion Pit – Manners. This album has a couple AMAZING singles, but they are padded with noodled and busy nonsense that is painful and unsatisfying to listen to; basically, it's like losing your virginity.
(6) Doves – Gold something. I don't care to look up the exact title because this album is such the colossal disappointment. I’ve been looking forward to its release for YEARS and then it dropped and felt like Chinese Democracy all over again. What a serious boring, bogged-down with meandering garbage, painfully bland singing, no surprises whatsoever record. They should have just released a record with a big fucking YAWN on it.
Most Anticipated Upcoming Album.
Uhh… probably the Walkmen, or Menomena or something. Maybe the next Thom Yorke solo album.
Favorite Concert.
Uhh... Christ, didn’t go to a whole lot of shows this year. Although, it was good to finally see Damien Jurado. Jolie Holland was also amazing. Fuck. I haven’t a clue. No wait, Mary just reminded me, MENOMENA! This was, like, the fourth time I’ve seen them and they STILL destroyed. They played in a tiny club in SB and we were both pretty much the super fans at the show. We danced like children during the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was indisputably epic. I remember arching the lyrics to "Rotten Hell" (one of my all time favorite songs written EVER) from the rafters and feeling unfathomably euphoric (may have been the six beers).
Saddest Pop and/or Culture News.
The socialist propaganda frenzy against Health Care Reform (mind you, not those who wish to help and question parts of the reform, just those flatly--without argument or debate--are against). I’m so fucking sick of that machine subtly masking its apparent classist elitism.
I’m also sick of the abortion issue being discussed again. Seriously, folks, Freakonomics, Chapter 8. The BEST/GRISLIEST grounds FOR abortion ever claimed.
MJ. The acknowledgment that MJ won’t be around to touch my kids.
Bon Iver breakup.
Best Pop and/or Culture News.
They’re talking about legalizing marijuana again. This is great news for the planet and all the asshole fuckfaces out there who need to relax and enjoy our moments together. Radiohead releasing that rad song “Harry Patch.” Patton Oswalts latest comedy record (this one’s for Joel). Obama helping turn this economic ship around and ensuring that civil engineers like myself still have a job designing boring, yet necessary shit like roads, sidewalks and strip clubs. Oh yeah, and the next installment of Wallstreet which will feature Josh-effen-Brolin. Tiger Woods week-long devolution into a dipshit.
Favorite Clothing Item Purchased.
Tag Heuer Aquaracer Chronograph. Best mans wristwatch ever. Also, my Diesel alpaca old mans cardigan. Any incidental clothing I bought that Mary incidentally struts around the house. Oh yeah, and my John Varvatos maroon plaid button-up I got for my trip to Portland. It’s the perfect travel shirt that goes up and down from casual to classy, pending on the trouser. Oh! And my brown leather Frye lace-ups. I like good clothes, so eat my ass.
Favorite Big Purchase.
You mean, aside from the Tag wristwatch that I wear just about every day? I’ll say, probably my Audio Techica QuietPoint headphones, which weren’t all that expensive--$99. But they keep me sane five days a week, 8 hours a day, while putting up with my daily abuse and still sounding as great as they did when I first bought the set. If I didn’t have these, my having to endure “Stairway to Heaven” and “Dude Looks like a Lady” would cause a mass homicide at my office. I like them so much, I bought a backup pair. And my resubscription to audible.com. Huge fan of this website.
Favorite Read.
“A Peoples History of the United States” Howard Z. ‘Nough said, since most of us don’t read anyway.
Favorite Actor.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Dude, he plays the kind of chummy roles that make me flinch and laugh like a tickled baby. This is the kind of actor that makes me side with all those folk who went to theatre school and got that kind of worthless degree, yet gets me thinking they (possibly) didn’t make such a bad decision after all.
Favorite Store.
Probably this bomb ass antique store Mary and I occasionally visit in Los Alamos. They have EVERYTHING, including my art deco desk clock, vintage metal table fan, and Snoopy lighter that reads “DO YOU FUCK?” Yes, Snoopy, in fact I do.
Favorite Trip to Anywhere.
New Zealand. Although NYC was amazing too. I’m still gunna ride with New Zealand because the imperative effects it had on my life goals, soul-essence and globe-trotter sensibilities. Made me realize what I really want out of life, where I want my Masters to take me and what it means to be in a foreign country and still be gloriously happy.
Hardest Laugh.
Watching "Kabluey" with Mary. I laughed so hard I actually died and Mary had to revive me. Thank you, Liz-Day and Bryce. Also, I know there was some event where Derrek, Sukriti, Mary and I were doing something unspeakably cool and we all laughed something fierce, but that’s a story for another time.
Favorite Daydream.
My waterside 5-star hotel room on a lake in Queentown, New Zealand. Had a fireplace, two bedrooms, washer and drier and since it was in fucking New Zealand, it was affordable. I remember I ordered a pizza, listened to "Back to Black," and watched the snow capped ridges as the leaves crunched in orange and yellow hues outside my patio. It was really unbelievably amazing. Easily the most beautiful place in the world, and full of the nicest people in the world. The next day I went to Milford Sound and died again. I constantly return to that hotel in my head and have the vacation over again and again. I admit that my shadowy, cryptic explanation completely fails to convey, but it’s the kind of place and moment that feels like the way heaven ought to be described. It's a completely indelible sort of thing.
Favorite Designer.
This year I will say that I really loved what Diesel gave the world. Admittedly, at least half of what they were selling looks like M.I.A.’s closet, but they brought back masculine looking guy-wear that is timeless and durable. Also, J Crew mastered the rugged guy look. I love their fucking clothes this year. Such amazing stuff. From the straight fit selvage jeans, to their simple, buttery soft jasper henleys and tees. Ladies, if you are ever curious about what to get a guy that he’ll like and simultaneously not become all homophobic and self-aware about, yet still look ultrafuckable for you, seriously chicka’, buy him some J Crew. My staple this year was a heather grey henley, dark blue jeans, brown lace-ups, vintage brown belt with gold hardware, utility jacket or cardigan and my Ray Bans. Big fan of this look.
Biggest Decision Made.
Continuing to stay with my old man for a little while longer while this economy thing rattles along. Also, maintaining my Masters degree on time. It’s a tough, blisteringly long road, and the workload has drawn me into myself at times, but ultimately I still feel as committed and ambitious as ever.
Biggest Vow Made to Self.
Finish this Masters irrespective of economic stability. Travel, travel, and fucking travel. Going to Amsterdam and Paris in May. I’m so stoked.
Saddest Moment.
Uhh…not many of these this year. Just typical worries. I wasn’t really sad this year, not that I can remember. It was a genuinely happy year. Strange.
Happiest Moment.
Being in New Zealand was transcendent. My favorite thing was just driving across the country in my Ford Focus, windows down, raining outside with the radio turned up to eleven. NZ has this amazing old-jazz station that played great artists like Coltrane, Davis and Bird. It was super liberating and a genuine moment of life alteration, curiosity and whim. Made me realize all that’s truly important for me to achieve, particularly with respect to this Masters degree I’m chipping away at.
Favorite Movies.
Dude, Sin Nombre. It’s epically violent, intense, dramatic and portioned with this savory bite into that whole illegal immigration controversy. District 9 was also amazing, with the nubs to be entertaining and thrilling, while crunched in an American imperialist parable. Up!, however owns the year. Best fucking movie experience I’ve ever had. Mary and I, on a lark of a birthday, went downtown SB and had an amazing Italian dinner, then walked to the Arlington and saw this puppy in 3D and we both cried like holocaust onions. Seriously, made us feel like a million bucks and we both immediately wanted to rue the day and see Angel Falls the following week.
Favorite New Website.
TED.com. You want inspiration? No? Well nevermind. But do you want to know what this life is all-a-fucking-bout? Then go to TED.com and watch some of the videos under the jaw dropping category then make yourself useful and do something with your life that you were meant to do and stop fucking complaining about things not going the way you planned.
Favorite Meal.
I’m the biggest fan of breakfast. Like, you have no idea. I wish I could eat breakfast all day everyday. Well, anyway, Mary and I found this AMAZING breakfast joint, it’s only open for breakfast on SUNDAY and it’s in Santa Ynez, but all that inconvenience is TOTALLY WORTH IT. It’s called the Vineyard House. And you sit on this deck with a heater and you overlook miles of endless wine country valley under shady oaks and enjoy the best meal of your life. Seriously, the French toast will fuck up your mom, dad, sisters and brothers without as much as a taste. Then the Eggs Californian will annihilate your grandma and grandpa. FUCK YOU GRANDMA! Everyone on the menu slays and is elegantly portioned and presented. You deserve this place.
Favorite Drink.
Makers and Diet. But 1554 is a close second. It’s tough to find in this redneck village, but when I do find it, it’s like Christmas fucking morning.
Most Likely Splurge in 2010.
Uhh, probably buy something stupid, but amazing in Amsterdam. There will possibly be another, yet-to-be-planned trip to somewhere. And I may buy another watch. OH YEAH, and my return to Cal Poly will not likely be a splurge, but will at least be welcomed bastion of suffering for two solid years—if I get in.
One Sentence that Sums Up the 2009 Experience.
I know that most Americans had a horrible 2009 due to the obvious uncertain implications of our economy and stuff, so I’m wearing some reticence saying that 2009 was a marvelous year for me.

( Despite what this looks like, I don't really care much about Xmas )
Not really feeling the Xmas spirit this year. This may have something to do with the fact that I would rather be with Jeremy or my friends than with my family. Or I'm a bit of a Grinch, who knows. I'm usually more excited, though...residual break up sadness? I have no idea. I don't feel sad at all...just kind of "meh" about the whole thing.
I just want it to be Tuesday already. Jeremy's coming to visit me that day. :3

Work is SO SLOW. I've literally been on FB and playing bubbletown on msn games ALL. DAY. My boss only left me three things to do for three days, little things. It could be worse, i guess =) In better news, the big boss just told me we're closing early tomorrow! Yay!
other news: It's starting. That marriage and babies thing. I've got a wedding on Valentine's day, and another friend will (99% chance) be engaged by June, though most likely in the next 9 days. I've already been informed that I'm a bridesmaid in the second wedding. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH as much as I want somebody to do all that stuff with, I'm not ready to be married this second. I'm ready to be committed, to be working towards that, but not actually married! wieeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrdddddd.

ARC winners will be announced in the next day or so. Thereason is prob obvious to For those who read the Twitter feed or FB (which gets my twitter feed), but for those who aren't there: we had around 18-19 inches of snow on Saturday. The resulting being-snowed-in, waaay too many hours of shoveling snow, & canceled school tweaked my schedule quite a bit.
I haven't forgotten the contests. Snow & kids & Winter Break starting a few days early took priority though.
Will get results up as soon as I can do so.

Have you ever looked at someone and thought "OMG they have my dream life"? I mean, I know nobody's perfect, and every life has its challenges and ups & downs, but really?
There've been two such cases for me lately. Three ever, but the first was just a rich bitch who seemed to have everything (except a personality, of course).
These two though, have IT. They have my dream guy, my dream job, my dream house, and come from similar backgrounds.
On the one hand, the pessimistic hand, I get all mopey and "why can't that be me??" waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, but then the optimist kicks the pessimists ass and says "It can and will. You just need to be patient but also take charge of your life" (my mind likes to give itself mixed signals lol)
so, to back to the original question:

HOLIDAYS:
As blurred as I am lately, I'm not sure I'll remember to post a holiday msg, so I wanted to at the very least wish you all a Happy Hanukkah. Happy early Yule. Happy early Solstice. Happy early Christmas. . . and to those who are non-faith, hope you're snuggled in somewhere lovely with someone fabulous for Winter's arrival.

i love dan savage
a man called freaking out about his daughter having a rainbow bear patch and he thinking it was a gay pride symbol. so dan savage says...
"well your on to us, finally FINALLY caught on straight people. that the plan is to gradually appropriate everything. so there's nothing left you can carry or wear, no part of your body you can pierce, nothing you can buy your children that isnt a symbol of gay pride. take that yellow equal sign in the blue box, which is the logo of the human rights campaign which is a gay rights group. thats just our attempt to ruin mathematic for everybody. you really cant do math anymore, in grade school, high school, college level advanced calculus without there being something kinda gay about it. particularly when you add it all up, you gotta get to the equal sign. next up, the division sign.
now, gay bears, the bear culture, we've totally appropriated the bears, and the otters a little bit. any little girl who's wearing a rainbow bear patch in short order is going to be followed around town by large hairy men in harnesses who are going to misinterpret that bear patch as a secret signal that SHE at her young age is a member of the large hairy male gay community. so you might want to monitor your little girl's facebook page, the guys she's hanging out with, if she's going to leather bars with her posse.
the other things we've appropriated lately: the democratic party, though not as thoroughly and completely as we might have hoped to appropriate it; france, thats ours now; what other symbols of gay pride might you need to know, uh, mass transit - public transit, totally gay; high school wrestling teams, thanks to youtube, all of now totally gay; the jockstrap, totally gay; the sports bra, totally lesbian; women playing golf, totally dikey; the american musical theater, we are now in the process of giving back to you. its the reverse, sort of back flip, reverse psychology move, were something gets so gay that we dont even want it any more, we hand it back to you. hence crap like lion king, tarzan, mary poppins, little mermaid, totally, american musical theater is really yours now.
we are always adding to this list, secret little gay symbols and MARRIAGE finally. marriage. totally gay. google wedding cake, you practically cant find a picture of a wedding cake that doesnt have two little grooms on top of it. mostly they are being used in scare campaign but antigay raging bigots but it is also part of your campaign to take marriage away from you. is there anything gayer then a wedding. i mean a wedding is basically a huge musical about two people who are going to have sex, probably that night. thats really fucking gay. i dont care if the two people are male and female thats totally fucking gay. cake? with flowers all over it? ring girls? people throwing petals around? this is all an appropriation of what is really all typically gay sex rituals. my boy friend and i we never have sex without a couple of ring bearers, cock rings, but still, and something strewing flower petals around the room. then we have cake afterwards and i dance with my boyfriend's father."
HAHAHA fucking gold

Thinking about ALA cosplay. Don't have a lot of time, considering it's less than a month away now, so I was trying to think of something relatively easy. Andrea is doing a Venusaur gijinka, so I was thinking of maybe doing that, too. Although not Venusaur, I leave the awesomeness to Andrea. :D
So I was going through Bulbapedia, lookin' for pink pokemans and here's what I've come up with.
Cherrim (the cherry blossom pieces could make a fun dress!)
Clefable (exciting wings!)
Jigglypuff (A classic)
Mew (my bro could do Mewtwo)
Skitty (who doesn't love a catgirl?)
Sooo yeah. I was also thinking maybe Mimi from Digimon, but I am concerned about finding her boots. But we'll seeeeee.
Back to watching Jeremy play Assassin's Creed II. I have learned to enjoy watching boy's play video games, a useful skill I picked up through years of my brother getting all the gaming systems for Xmas and me getting strategy guides because YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH KC'S NINTENDO, GTFO.
